Hot news about 6-month visa in Vietnam

Posted On Aug 24 2009 | By adaddissure | Comments 23 Comments

According to the newly updated information from Vietnam Immigration Department (A18), 6-month visa (single/multiple) has not been issued since August 24, 2009. Vietnam Immigration only issues 3-month visa (single/multiple) as the longest one. Thus, instead of applying for 6-month visa, clients should apply for 3-month visa (as a longest one up to now). You only need to access our website at www.Vietnam-Visa .com and click 3 months (single/multiple) visa in the online Vietnam visa application form. Any questions about this can be sent to:

  • I hve 2 questions:
    1. So as of right now, no one can extend/renew their visa for 6 months?
    2. How about leaving the country when my current visa is expired and coming back with a brand new visa? Can I get a multiple entry 6 months?
    Thank you!

  • To Jay,
I would like to answer your questions as follows:
    1. Now, you can only renew or extend for 3 months visa.
    2. If you leave Vietnam and then enter Vietnam again, you can apply for 3 month visa as the maximum duration of a visa to Vietnam is 3 months.

  • So I’m confused, can I get the 3 months visa prior to entering Vietnam and then extending it while I’m there for another 3 months or how does this work?

  • Hi,

I have a few questions also:
    - My friend holds Finnish citizenship (which means he can stay in Vietnam for 2 weeks without a visa) and he wants to go to Vietnam to stay, travel and look for a job. The Vietnamese embassy in Finland said that they only give out 1-month visas, so what should he do now? Can he go to Vietnam and then apply for some other papers there?

    - I saw in Vietnam immigration website, a Vietnamese person or organisation can sponsor for a foreigner, so what kind of relation this person needs to have with the foreign so that she can be the sponsor?

Thanks a lot indeed. I really appreciate your help!

  • To Kate
You can apply online for visa 3 months if you stay longer than 1 month in Vietnam.

  • Hi – I am wanting to come and stay in Vietnam for mid August to end of January 2012 … I have already been to Vietnam twice in the last 6 months for 1 week each time. (australian passport) I am imagining that this time I apply for a 3 month multiple entry visa (i am wanting to explore some of the surrounding countries whilst i am over there) and then either apply for an extension before that one expires or else leave the country and apply for another 3 month visa … is that correct? either way, just want to make sure I can spend the 6 months in Vietnam.

  • @ To Tori:
    Thank you for contacting us!

You are really well-understood about Vietnam visa! We would like to confirm that your information is correct. Please do not worry at all.

  • Hi, just to check i haven’t misunderstood, I am going to be coming to Vietnam as part of my gap year in November. I will then be staying for three months before travelling to Australia and then I’ll be going back to Vietnam for three months. So would it be possible to apply for both 3 month mvisas in the UK before leaving or do I need to get one now and one after the first three months are up? Thankyou!

    • Dear Charlotte,

You can apply two different visa applications for your entries in November and February at the same time. Just to be sure that your plans have been in scheduled to avoid any changes in arrival dates outside valid period approved in visa approval letter.

      Kindly regards,

  • I am a retired U.S. citizen. I have visited Vietnam twice, once in December 2012 and once in May 2013. I would like to visit again, this time for 3 months in July to September 2013. I would probably want a single entry 3 month visa. I received both my previous one month visas from the Vietnamese embassy in Bangkok Thailand.
{ know that on the application form for a Vietnamese visa there is a space for “person who knows you” in Vietnam. As I have no such person I left that space empty on my two previous one month single entry visas. I received both visas.
My specific question is this: can I be issued a single entry 3 month visa for a 3 month stay without having someone as “a person who knows you in Vietnam” whose name I can put in that space on the visa application form?
Or do I need someone as a contact point to get a 3 month single entry visa for Vietnam?
In other words, is it possible for me to get a 3 month visa as a tourist to Vietnam without needing the name of someone to enter in that space on the application form?
For the record, I intend to travel to Ho Chi Minh, Vung Tau, Nha Trang, and possibly Da Nang as a tourist during those 3 months.
    Thank you.

    • Dear Robert Belari,

If you enter Vietnam by air, you can apply for 3 month single entry visa for Vietnam with In our online Vietnam visa application form, we does not require you to fill with that information.

Otherwise, you can apply for Vietnam visa at the Vietnam Embassy. But the procedure varies by embassies. If you would like to apply for this kind of visa, please contact the Vietnam Embassy for more information.

      We hope this information helps.

      Have a nice day,
